The Blueberry Old Fashioned Is Our July Special

A craggy, cake-style donut with crisp edges, a tender crumb, and real blueberries baked right in. Glazed while still warm, so the glaze settles into every crack. Available the whole month of July.

July's monthly special is here: the Blueberry Old Fashioned. A summer-only riff on one of our oldest donut styles, made with real blueberries and finished with our signature crackled glaze.

If you've never had an old fashioned before, here's the short version. It's a cake donut, not a yeast donut, so the texture is denser, the edges are craggy and crisp, and the interior is tender like a good muffin. The shape is intentionally irregular. Those little ridges and cracks aren't a mistake. They're the whole point. When the warm donut hits the glaze, every crack catches a thin layer that crisps as it cools.

Why Old Fashioned, Why Now

Old fashioneds are one of those things that look simple and aren't. The batter has to be cold, the fry has to be just right, and the glaze has to land at the exact moment the donut comes off the fryer. When all three line up, you get a donut that's crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and lightly sweet across the whole bite, with a finish that's a little tangier than a glazed yeast donut.

July is peak blueberry season in Ohio. So this month we're folding real blueberries into the batter, frying the donuts the same way we always do, and glazing them warm. The blueberries get jammy as they bake. You can see them on the surface and taste them in every bite.

What Makes It Different

  • Real blueberries, not flavoring. Folded into the batter so the fruit cooks into the donut. You'll see the color and taste the difference.
  • Cake donut, not yeast. Denser crumb, crispier edges, a flavor that lands closer to a muffin than a glazed donut.
  • Glazed while warm. The glaze settles into every crack and crisps as it cools. That's the texture you're looking for.
  • Summer-only. When July ends, the Blueberry Old Fashioned goes back in the vault until next year.

$2.05 each. In the case all month long, while supplies last.

Pair It With the Blueberry Latte

We're also running a matching coffee drink for the month: the Blueberry Latte. Espresso, blueberry syrup, and steamed milk. Available hot or iced, and the iced version is the move on a July morning.
